Word building

Word building

You will need:
Lots of different types of letters (Magnetic, wooded, stamps, sponge etc),
A magnetic board (if using magnetic letters),
Paper (if using stamps)

This is our general way of learning new words.
We have four words we work on- 3 she has on her noticeboard and one is her password. We will pull out all her letters and Button can pick how she makes the words. So sometimes she will stamp them out, other times she will use her magnets, other times she will just build them with her random letters on the floor. This is just about repetition and seeing how the word is formed. As we do this we we say a sentence using one or more of her words. This is giving her the confidence to story tell and think about the words she's using in what she's saying. She actually chooses to carry this on through any sight word game we play which is great. If she has to find one word in a game she will make a sentence with that word while looking. Its reinforcing her imagination and communication skills. I've even heard her telling herself stories using her words shes working on when playing alone.
